Original flower pots

A pot is more than a container. It helps determine how a plant looks in your room, how the light falls on it and how peaceful a corner feels. At Stera, we choose pots with the same care as our plants: in ceramic, terracotta, felt or fiberclay, understated or with a touch of colour.

Pots by style

Design and ceramic

Sculptural shapes and a soft glaze make a pot an object in its own right. Think of the Laboro in warm ochre, the Samba with a reactive sage-green glaze, making each pot unique, or the Erva by D*M in a warm brown shade.

Colourful

If you are looking for a touch of cheer, you will find it with Eja and Aveva. Eja's pots are made from recycled ceramic, such as the slender Sara in checked burgundy. Aveva's wool pots are handmade from felt, with a waterproof natural rubber lining, such as The Circus and the round ochre pot.

Natural and stone

Terracotta breathes and suits almost every plant. The handmade Bola is ideal for cacti and succulents. The Terra Antica Genova has the look of weathered terracotta but is made from lightweight fiberclay.

Minimal

Sometimes the plant should have the final word. A round pot in a calm colour, such as the Bonnie in warm cream or the Jeroom in sand with fine stripes, lets the greenery speak for itself.

Choosing the right size

  • Choose a pot that is slightly wider than the root ball. Too large means a lot of wet soil around the roots; too small gives the plant no room.
  • A plant needs drainage. Excess water must be able to escape, otherwise the roots will remain too wet.
  • Many decorative pots do not have a hole. In that case, use them as a decorative pot: leave the plant in its nursery pot with a hole and place that inside the decorative pot. Alternatively, add hydro beads to the bottom.
  • It is best to plant directly into a pot with a drainage hole and a saucer underneath, such as a terracotta saucer.

Indoors or outdoors

Not every pot belongs outdoors. Felt and most glazed indoor pots prefer to stay inside. For a patio, it is best to look at the outdoor pots collection, such as the terracotta Venezia planter for a windowsill or balcony. The Terra Antica fiberclay pots are suitable for indoors and sheltered patios. If you are unsure, feel free to ask us in the shop.

Care and cleaning

Dust a pot with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Limescale marks on terracotta can often be removed with a brush and some water. Do not leave water in a pot without a hole, and after watering, check that no water remains in the decorative pot. Before repotting, clean the pot thoroughly before placing a new plant inside.

Frequently asked questions

Should a flower pot have a drainage hole?

A plant needs drainage. If your pot does not have a hole, use it as a decorative pot with the plant in a nursery pot with a hole, or add hydro beads to the bottom.

How big should a new pot be?

Slightly wider than the root ball. This gives the plant room to grow without too much wet soil around the roots.

Can I use a wool pot by Aveva as it is?

Yes, the inside is waterproof thanks to natural rubber, so you can put your plant in it.

Do you ship pots?

Yes, we ship pots within Belgium with bpost. We do not ship plants outside Bruges; you can pick them up in the shop.

Can I bring my plant with me to choose a pot?

Yes, visit us at Lange Vesting 16 in Sint-Andries. We will look together at which pot is right, and we can also repot your plant.
